...traditional folk music trio, the Story Wrens...
We specialize in historical story songs of the British Isles, and we perform regularly throughout California, with recent events including the KVMR Celtic festival, the Booster House Concert series, and the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
Our music features three-part harmonies accompanied by tenor mandolin, Celtic harp, cello, fiddle, whistle, and other instruments, and our trio includes a wonderful lead singer/storyteller and a harper who has played on a Joan Baez album and guested with the Chieftains.
Playing the Celtic harp, whistle, guitar, fiddle and other folk instruments, the Story Wrens use songs to travel through time and tell stories of knights, maidens, sailors and other figures of the British Isles of centuries ago. Much of music is traditional, but it also includes compositions from texts of the 17th century, such as a song based on the 1615 narrative poem, Sir Eglamore and the Dragon.
Winners of the LA Critic Awards’ “Best Folk Album 2012” and “Best Folk Band 2018.” Appearances include the Lifetime series, American Princess, and the Hollywood premiere for the Netflix series, The Witcher. Featuring Celtic harper Shawna Selline, winner of the All-Ireland contest and a guest performer with the Chieftains.
